An appeal on behalf of the Queen's
Institute of District Nursing, by Ellaline Terriss (Lady Seymour Hicks )
The Queen's Institute of District Nursing, founded by Queen Victoria, of which Queen Mary is now patron, trains nurses to visit patients in their own homes in Great Britain and Ireland. It has been doing this work for fifty-theee years. Today 4,543 Queen's nurses and nearly 3,000 village and nurse-midwives are working under affiliated asociations throughout the country. These nurses are very hard worked in wartime because they are looking after patients evacuated from civilian hospitals to make room for war casualties, evacuated children sent to reception areas, and the families of men who have been called away to the fighting services.
