The Song and the Story

on BBC One London

with Isla St Clair. The Gentle Sex? Stories of brave and heroic girls have always blown like the wind through folk song. Sometimes they were about girls who dressed up as highwaymen or soldiers, sometimes about heroines who had to pit their wits against men to solve a riddle, about quite ordinary girls who simply got caught up in history, like Mary Hamilton , one of the four ladies-in-waiting to Mary Queen of Scots. But there was no such person, so who is the song about? Isla tells the stories and sings some of the songs.
