1/6. Radio 2's resident rocker Suzi Quatro recalls six established greats of rock 'n' roll and pop, beginning with Neil Sedaka, who's been writing hit songs since the 1950s. With lyricist Howie Greenfield, he wrote many of his rock 'n' roll-era hits in friendly competition with other New York writing teams such as Gerry Goffin and Carole King. He dated King, immortalising their young love in the song Oh! Carol. Sedaka explains why Calendar Girl is a "sandwich song" and talks about how he layered his multi-tracked harmonies on hits such as Breaking Up Is Hard to Do and Happy Birthday, Sweet 16.
