' Cultivators of the Nile Valley '
WINIFRED S. BLACKMAN
Winter is with us, fields have lost their colour, and growth has stopped, but in Egypt, where the floods'have subsided during the last fortnight, leaving a layer of fertile sediment in the valley, the farmers have been busy sowing, and by Christmas from either bank of the Nile green wheatfields will ' stretch out towards the yellow sand '.
The harvest will be gathered in April, and from then until the end of May it is dry, barren, and desolate in Egypt. June brings the cooling ' winds of the North' from the Mediterranean, and once again the annual floods begin.
Winifred S. Blackman is to tell us all about this today, and what it means to the people of Egypt. She will also say something about the religion and industries, about the life of the peasants (or fellahin), and about medicines and charms.
