View in Radio Times

Talk by C. R. Harington , Ph.D., F.R.S., Director of the National Institute for Medical Research
The association of chemistry with medicine goes back to the days of the alchemists, and between the alchemistic times and the present day the inter-relationship has fluctuated between a close and fruitful association and almost complete neglect.
With the development of modern chemistry the association has once again grown closer, particularly during the present century, and few major advances are now possible in medicine without some contribution from the research chemist.
In this talk Dr. Harington traces the history of the early relationships between chemistry and medicine, and illustrates modern developments by examples of the outstanding contributions that chemistry has made to the advance of medicine.
