Max Brown 's first teaching job is in an impoverished Saskatchewan town where the pupils are difficult, the local people unfriendly and the weather icy cold. Max has to learn the hard way, and Silvio Narizzano 's film is an often funny and always entertaining portrait of a young man's struggle to survive.
