Sound Stories: Eccentrics: 5

on BBC Radio 3

One of music's great originals, Percy Grainger seems to have been made eccentric by a mother who never allowed him to grow up. He was unfettered by convention of any kind - religious, moral, behavioural or social - and, even at the height of his fame, he dressed so shabbily that he was picked up several times by the police as a suspected vagrant.

Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody No 2 in C sharp minor - Tzimon Barto (piano)
