Mr. J. C. STOBART and Miss MARY SOMER' VILLE : ‘ Stories in Poetry—VI, “ The Faerio Queene " and " Paradise Lost " '

on 2LO London

View in Radio Times

IT was once said of Hazlitt that ho was the only man who had ever read right through
" The Faerio Queene ,' and it is true that Spenser's great allegorieal-romantic-fantastic epic is not beat suited to continuous reading, especially in this hurried age. But everything that Spenser wrote was elegant, and no long poem better repays browsing in. As for ' Paradise Lost,' it occupies very nearly the same position to English poetry as the Authorized Version of the Bible does to English prose.
