Conducted by Flight-Lieut. J. H. Amers , M.B.E., Director of Music
The Metropolitan Police Central Band was founded in 1927. Its full strength is 56, but a combination of about 30 is found to be most suitable for broadcasting purposes. The players are all serving members of the London police force, many of them having been Army bandsmen before they joined the police. The band is seen and heard on all the important state occasions in London, such as the Silver Jubilee and the Coronation. It has also played at a Buckingham Palace garden-party, and in June 1938 paid a successful visit to Ostend.
