Composer of the Week: Poulenc: 3: Between the Wars

on BBC Radio 3

With Donald Macleod.

Soon after his release from the army in 1921, the composer collaborated with Jean Cocteau and Raymond Radiguet on the "buffo comedy" Le Gendarme Incompris. Poulenc later destroyed it, although it was rediscovered 25 years after his death. He also formed the most important musical partnership of his life with baritone Pierre Bernac, with whom he was to perform around the world for the next quarter of a century.
