In the 1920s, little Winifred Mason never met another younger girl, Edna Edmunds , who was also playing in the Forest of Dean - where coal was mined beneath the oak trees. Now they meet as Winifred Foley , best-selling author of A Child in the Forest, and Edna Healey , writer and wife of The Rt Hon Denis Healey , MP.
