Noel and Tom have been sold into slavery on Cuba and Jack Babbiscombe has become their overseer. He plans their escape, and they get away by commandeering a small boat (and Manuel, its owner) at the port of Silos. They take a chance and put to sea in the hope that they will be picked up by a homebound vessel. They are picked up, but by the villainous Elisha Small, bound once again for the Island of Silver Keys.
