THE LIFE AND TIMES OF AN ENGLISH BUTLER

on BBC Home Service Basic

Read by Howard Milsom
This programme was originally broadcast by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and its origins are rather unusual. During 1953 in a Schools programme the BBC broadcast an interview with a thirteen-year old girl from Alberta, Patricia Dewan. In it she asked, among other questions, ' What is a butler? '
The programme was heard by a retired butler living in Buckinghamshire who immediately wrote her a forty-page letter in answer, and this is his story as it was read at the microphone in Canada last year by Howard Milsomleading Toronto actor.
