Proms 75: Part 1

on BBC Radio 3

direct from the Royal Albert Hall, London
Simon Lindley (organ) BBC Singers
BBC Choral Society, conductor John Poole
BBC Symphony Orchestra, leader Bela Dekany, conducted by Sir Adrian Boult and John Poole

Elgar Organ Sonata In G major
David Bedford Twelve Hours of Sunset (BBC commission: world premiere) conducted by John Poole

Sir Lennox Berkeley says:
"David Bedford studied with me at the Royal Academy of Music, and I have followed his subsequent works and career with interest. He belongs, I suppose, to the avant-garde school, yet he works within a very individual musical idiom. Tonight's world premiere "Twelve Hours of Sunset", is I understand "an attempt to convey a feeling of suspension, timelessness and perpetual evening".
