Country File

on BBC One London

Britain has just completed its first year of 'Set Aside' - the scheme whereby farmers are paid not to produce.
In the USA they have had similar government programmes for 50 years. In her second film on Set
Aside, Anne Brown reports from the American North West where there are some hard lessons to be learnt. Set Aside can damage communities and put a lot of people out of business. It can also be very efficient - but perhaps not in the way British farmers and environmentalists imagine. Plus the weather for the countryside at 12.55pm with Ian McCaskill.
