La Jeune France

on BBC Radio 3

' As human conditions become more and more difficult, routine, and impersonal, music must ceaselessly endeavour to communicate with those who appreciate its spiritual force and liberal response.
'A group of four young French composers, Yves Baudrler. Daniel Lesur , Andre Jollvet and Olivier Messiaen adopt the title " La Jeune France ", which had previously belonged to Berlioz. They do this without any academic or political motivation, in order to propagate new works by young composers. The inclinations of this group are diverse, yet they will unite in a spirit of sincerity, generosity, and artistic conscience to revive and encourage living music' (MANIFESTO, 1936) Written and presented by Richard Rodney Bennett with the recorded voices Of YVES BAUDRIER , DANIEL-LESUR, ANDRE JOLIVET , HILDA JOI.
