My Ben Jonson

on BBC Radio 3

by Peter Barnes
A contemporary playwright talks about a fellow playwright long dead.
Ben Jonson was born late In 1572 or early in 1573 so it is fitting that the 400th anniversary of his birth should be celebrated this year.
Peter Barnes. the author of the successful play The Ruling Class, has a particular fellow-feeling for Ben Jonson. His talk. which he illustrates with extracts from Ben Jonson 's lesser-known plays, is a highly personal assessment from the standpoint of a practising artist who admires a predecessor from whom he has learnt much.
The programme Is narrated by PETER BARNES with the voices of DILYS LAYE
DEREK GODFREY , PETER CRAZE
ANTHONY JACOBS and DAVID NEAL Producer MARTIN ESSLIN
followed by an interlude
