James Clerk Maxwell

on BBC Radio 4 FM

One of the few undisputed geniuses of science, James Clerk Maxwell was born 154 years ago today. He developed the mathematical theory of gases, and predicted the existence of electromagnetic waves - by which radio and television programmes are today broadcast. He was a warm, witty man with a biting sense of humour, and yet at the same time a deep-felt Christianity.
