Barriers

on BBC Radio 4 FM

Whichever way you turn this curse of class difference confronts you like a wall of stone
When George Orwell wrote about Britain in the 1930s he saw the class system as an impediment to social progress. Half a century on, Graham Turner examines some contemporary attitudes to see where the barriers now stand and how they affect our performance in social and economic terms.
This, the first of six programmes, tries to define class and to find out why it exists.
