Byrd at Ingatestone

on BBC Radio 3

In 1589, William Byrd was invited by his fellow
Catholic and neighbour Lord Petre to provide music at Ingatestone Hall during the Christmas period. Four centuries later, we return to the Great Chamber to explore the same repertory in the same Tudor surroundings. Music by Byrd and contemporaries is interspersed with Elizabethan Catholic verse.
