A comedy by ALEXANDER OSTROVSKY translated and adapted by ALAN BROWN and KYRA DIETZ with Patience Collier and David Buck
The play takes place on the estate of Raissa Pavlovna, some miles from the district town.
In his comedy of Russian country life, Alexander Ostrov sky (1823-1886) casts an amused, if cynical, eye on the hypocrisies and pretensions of rural society in the 1870s - and moralises, albeit indirectly, on the unfair advantage that wealth bestows on those who seek to manipulate the lives of their less fortunate friends and relatives.
Produced by ARCHIE CAMPBELL (Patience Collier is a member of the Royal Shakespeare Co)
