Jason's wife, rejected for a younger woman and about to lose her children.
Phyllida Lloyd 's new production for Opera North uses the original dialogue in a new English version by Kenneth McLeish. Francois-Benoit Hoffmann's libretto traces the tragedy which ensues when Medea fails to prevent her husband's remarriage to King Creon's daughter, Dirce. As her jealousy reaches fever pitch, she arranges a terrible revenge. Introduced by Piers Burton-Page .
