Leader, Daniel Melsa
Conducted by Clifton Helliwell
Suite of Music by Royalty arr. Quinto Maganini
1 Passetyme with goode Company (Henry VIII, King of England, 1491-1547). 2 Amaryllis (Louis XIII , King of France, 1601-1643). 3 Madrigal (Gesualdo, Prince of Venosa, Italy, 1560-1641). 4 Military March (Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, 1712-1786)
Episode, Carnival in Paris. ..Svendsen
Svendsen, born at Oslo (then Christiania) in 1840, began his musical career as a violinist, but after having partially lost the use of his hands, he devoted his life to composition and conducting. As a composer Svendsen possessed a pleasing melodic vein and displayed a craftsmanship of no mean order. In his gay and brilliant ' Carnival in Paris' we find conciseness of expression, vitality, and an artistic feeling for orchestral colour.
