Modern Jazz Quartet
Julian Joseph introduces recordings by the group founded in the early fifties by pianist John Lewis and vibraphonist Milt Jackson. With bassist Percy Heath and drummer Connie Kay in place by 1955, the quartet established an international reputation and chartered new ground in jazz underthe musical direction of Lewis, remaining together until 1974. In 1982 the quartet reformed and was recorded the following year by the BBC at the Dominion theatre in London. Highlights from this concert plus archive interviews with Jackson and Lewis.
