Introduces selections from his new translation of The Twelve Lays of the Gypsy
Readers, HUGH Dickson and BASIL JONES
Though Palamas was one of the greatest poets of modern Greece his work is little known in this country largely because of the lack of adequate translation. The Twelve Lays, Palamas's most famous poem, was written in 1897 just after Greece had been defeated by the Turks.
