TED HEATH'S Twenty-First Anniversary
ALTHOUGH Ted Heath's first radio broadcast was on August 29, 1944, it is 1967 that marks the twenty-first anniversary year of the formation of the regular band. Ted Heath's meeting with Major Glenn Miller during the war years was the catalyst that led to Ted finally taking the plunge and leaving the security of Geraldo's orchestra to form a band of his own.
Over the intervening twenty-one years Ted's name has become synonymous with good music and the tremendously high standard that he demands from his musicians. Many accolades have been awarded: Royal Command Performances, top of.the bill at the London Palladium, world-wide tours, Top-Twenty record sales, and Carnegie Hall concerts.
With such international recognition obviously many friends and anecdotes have been collected over the years. This evening's programme sifts them through, and portrays as much of this success story as possible from the many musicians who have played with the Heath band over the years.
