The short poem by William Blake popularly known as ' Jerusalem ' is widely understood from the conventional Chr.stiian point of view. Blake's intentions were very different. The problem, therefore, is to decide how much the appreciation of a poem is bound up with a knowledge of rhe poet's intentions.
