Pianist and composer John Lewis and bass player Percy Heath talk to Geoffrey Smith about the early years of the Modern Jazz Quartet. As the group's musical director, John Lewis either composed or arranged all of their material, including Concorde, Fontessa (a little suite inspired by the Renaissance commedia dell'arte) and the soundtrack music for the film No Sun in Venice.
