Wildlife on One: Enter the Dragons

on BBC One London

Did dragons ever really exist? Wildlife on One goes on the trail of possible prototypes for this symbol of a primeval ferocity. Perhaps the dragon legends common to many different cultures derive from the various types of monitor lizard. The Komodo Dragon, which lives on the Sunda islands of Indonesia, is the largest and most ferocious of the monitors. Watching a group of these huge carnivores frenziedly ripping apart a deer carcass can make the dragon myths seem only too plausible.
