The Man Who Made America

on BBC Radio 4 FM

Sir Ranulph Fiennes looks at the life and legacy of America's greatest explorer, Meriwether Lewis , on the 200th anniversary of his expedition to find a passage to the Pacific. With his co-commander
William Clark , Lewis helped create a country that stretched from "shining sea to shining sea".
However his triumph also triggered a tragic spiral of events that led to his suicide in 1807 and saw most of his discoveries forgotten or ignored. Producer Julian Carey
