In about 1400, the motet was used as a vehicle of political expression in North Italy. Patron saints, rulers and prelates were all saluted in such pieces, which sought to emphasise the prestige of the state. The Orlando Consort sings motets written for ceremonies in Venice and the surrounding territory. Music by Dufay,
Ciconia and others.
