This Wooden O

on BBC One London

Presented by Derek Jacobi
The Shakespeare Globe project is an attempt to reconstruct a replica of the Globe Theatre on the Thames Bankside - as close as possible to the original.
This film follows the early stages - the raising of 16 million dollars, the battle for the site, the arguments over 16th century design.
The founder of the project is American actor/director Sam Wanamaker who has dreamed of rebuilding Shakespeare's Globe for 30 years. He organised an eight-city American fund-raising tour and has brought together many of the richest and most influential people in the world to help him rebuild Shakespeare's theatre. With Michael York, Nicol Williamson, Douglas Fairbanks Jr, Millicent Martin, Cleo Laine and Johnny Dankworth, Lisa Harrow and Sam Wanamaker.
