Will Hay is not only another name for humour, but is synonymous with good acting, too. He and every member of his cast have a sense of character.
That they never step out of the picture is a part of their big success.
George Doonan was born in a theatrical basket, as it were. Both his parents and grandparents put on grease-paint before he was born. He appeared in a variety act when he was five years old, and later had a part with Charlie Chaplin in Casey's Court.
Hutch was a pianist who changed over to singing in 1926. Though America and the continent knew him in his earlier days, he hasn't really left England except for a holiday in the last eight years.
Alexander and Mose last broadcast in May. The former is still ' almost a gent.'
Though Dorothy Ward is generally known as one of the best principal boys, she has starred in straight plays in New York-including Barrie productions-and has played leading parts at the Palace and Hippodrome, London.
Beryl Orde can go to a film or a play and come back and give whole scenes faithful in intonation and dialogue. One of her most popular impersonations is that of the Houston Sisters. She is featured this week in ' People You Hear ' on page 455.
