'FARMERS' WORKAND WORRY'

on Regional Programme Northern Ireland

View in Radio Times

Peter Fitzpatrick
Pig production now forms a large part of the Ulster farming industry. The number of pigs in the Province has steadily increased in recent years, but Peter Fitzpatrick is doubtful whether the pig industry is being developed on the right lines. In spite of the increase, he says, there does not seem to be any more money going into the pockets of the farmers, largely because of the rise in the cost of feeding-stuffs. He will discuss this problem in his talk tonight and explore the possibility of using more home-grown feeding-stuffs. He will also devote part of his talk to the impressions he has collected at various agricultural shows during the last month, notably at Glenarm and also at Stranraer, which he visited chiefly to see the exhibition of Ayrshires.
