Pendle Hill is a Quaker centre for study and contemplation in Pennsylvania where people come - often at a period of personal crisis such as retirement. redundancy or a marriage breakdown — to try to recycle their lives. June Rose spent the winter of 1982 teaching at Pendle Hill. With the help of her taped diary of conversations with staff and students, she assesses the extent to which this experimental community succeeds in helping people from all over the world who come to find a new way of living.
