on BBC One London

Michael Bryant tells Far Out the Long Canal by Meindert Dejong

Moonta wanted to be able to skate more than anything in the world. But there were no ice rinks where he lived - right in the north of Holland. Everyone learned on the canals when they froze in the winter. They hadn't frozen for four years now and Moonta was getting impatient. But when the ice did come it brought more excitement than he ever expected.
(later in the week, Michael Bryant will tell 'Flight from the Polar Night' by A. Rutgers Van der Loeff)
