Miles Kington introduces records by this Scottish clarinettist who died in 1975. He was a most original and progressive musician, and his compositions, although they embrace a variety of sources from the ethnic music of Africa to Charles Mingus , an immediately recognisable as his own. The trumpeter Al Fairweather was a close associate for years and features on many of the records.
