on National Programme Daventry

View in Radio Times

A short story by Desmond MacCarthy -
, read by Ronald Watkins
Here is a story, written with Desmond MacCarthy 's sure touch, of a collection of pleasant and unpleasant little boys and of one boy in particular with a conscience-which is destined to be made elastic by the world around him before he grows to be a man.
The setting, a preparatory school ; time, mid-winter term ; the opening scene, the library in which the whole school is boxed up after a three days' storm. No safety valve
-something bound to happen. Then shortly before lunch one morning the school is summoned by the Head to the Big Playroom. Someone has defaced one of the shutters in the library with a drawing or inscription no longer decipherable. Will the culprit own up ?
