Kashgar, the most westerly city in China, was once the eastern-most bastion of Islam as well as bestriding the ancient silk road from the east. Now, after being closed to foreigners for many years, the region is opening up again and selected foreigners, among them the BBC's 'Peking
Correspondent, Stephen Jessel , have been allowed to visit the city.
