The Richard Perry Story

on BBC Radio 2

New series 1/4. Singer Patti Labelle tells the story of Brooklyn-born record-producer giant Richard Perry , who, like film director Howard Hawks, has had a hit with just about every genre in his field.
Having made a certain name for himself in the 60s with such acts as Captain Beefheart, Tiny Tim , Fats Domino and Ella Fitzgerald , Perry really entered public consciousness in the early 70s with career-defining albums for Harry Nilsson , Carly Simon and Ringo Starr. In 1970 he delivered Barbra Streisand 's Stoney End to an unsuspecting record-buying youth. Other beneficiaries of the Perry touch include Ray Charles , Leo Sayer , Willie Nelson ,
Patti Labelle and, most recently, Rod Stewart. Producer Alyn Shipton
