Michael Berkeley 's guest today is historian Simon Schama , professor of art history and history at Columbia University in New York. His publications include The
Embarrassment of Riches, Landscape and Memory and the recently published
Rembrandt's Eyes, and next year he will present a 16-part television series on the history of Britain. His musical choices range from a flute concerto by Vivaldi, an impromptu by Schubert and operatic excerpts by Verdi and Janacek to Dinah Washington singing Rodgers and Hart's Manhattan and a South American song in praise of coffee.
