The Damnation of Faust
Live from the Barbican Hall, London. Colin Davis and the London Symphony
Orchestra continue their acclaimed Berlioz Odyssey series. In Berlioz's dramatic cantata based on Goethe's epic poem, Faust places his soul in the hands of Mephistopheles in orderto save his lover Marguerite, and is sent on a white-knuckle descent into hell, while Marguerite is transported by angels to heaven. With stunning set-pieces-including the popular Hungarian March and the enchanted Ballet of the Sylphs- Berlioz conjures up his most virtuosic and vividly colourful writing for orchestra.
