On 23rd March 1783 Mozart gave a fund-raising 'academy' in Vienna's Burgtheater. He included some of his most recent music, and the event. attended by Emperor Joseph II, was the success of the capital's season.

The Quintet in C, Op 11 No 1 was one of a set of six Johann Christian Bach dedicated to the Elector Palatine. It is likely he took them with him when visiting Mannheim in 1774, three years before Mozart. The English Concert
