View in Radio Times

Presented and sung by Carmen del Rio (soprano) assisted by Alexis Chesnakov (guitar) and Edward Walker (flute)
Argentine born, a woman golf-champion at the age of nineteen, in her spare time an expert cook and dressmaker, Carmen del Rio has been broadcasting in this country since 1935. A woman of extraordinary versatility, she can sing in their own languages the songs of half a dozen countries. She speaks six languages like a native, and has spent years studying national songs.
The threat of war found her in America, but, in her own words, ' I just couldn't bear to be away if anything really did happen ' ; so she took ship for England and arrived the night before war was declared. She has been here ever since, and has been putting in valuable, but, . for her, unusual, work in two
Government departments.
