The Sunday Feature

on BBC Radio 4 FM

Leslie
Leslie Lemke is 33 and was born with brain-damage. His eyes were surgically removed because of an infection. Unable to fend for himself, he looks a sad, dispirited figure. But an amazing transformation takes place at the piano: he breaks into a broad smile, and his fingers, which under normal circumstances can't even hold a knife and fork. attack the keyboard with an ability that allows him to give concerts all over America.
Marjorie Lofthouse talks to
Leslie's family and doctors and assesses how the study of his condition - the Savant
Syndrome - may help other mentally handicapped people. Producer JOCK GALLAGHER (R)
