1-' South Ice '
Introduced by Donald Milner
This programme, which includes recent recordings made in the Antarctic, tells the story of the establishment of the new advance base of the Trans-Antarctic Expedition. It introduces the voices of two men recently stranded near ' South Ice' for twelve days in a blizzard, and Dr. Fuchs's account of their rescue. There is also a description of the four-man hut itself, which is two hundred and seventy miles inland from Shackleton and will serve as a subsidiary base for scientific observations during the coming year as well as a staging-post en route to the Pole.
