Thicker than Water: Part 3: Only Connect

on BBC Radio 4 FM

An examination of family life by Anne Owen
"Scientifically we are returning to the belief of our earliest ancestors concerning the irreplaceable function of motherhood" (Geoffrey Gorer - Woman's Plato)
But it's this belief, lying at the very basis of traditional family life, which was challenged by the founders of the Kibbutz movement, and is now under fire from the woman's liberation movement and from some of the experimental communes in this country.
The final programme in this series investigates some of the ways in which families could be reorganised so as to liberate women from their traditional role and strengthen the links between the family and the community outside. Comments by Howard Gannaway.
