'I could name you a dozen grown-up composers whose symphonies weren't half as good as this.'
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's extraordinary career began at the age of 6, when his violinist father took him on tour around the royal courts of Europe. By the age of 8 he was writing orchestral symphonies; by 18 he was producing works of true genius, like his 29th Symphony (K 201). But the story begins in sleepy, provincial 18th-century Salzburg, where Leopold Mozart was vice-kapellmeister to the ruling Prince Archbishop.
