From Bradford Cathedral. Conducted by the Provost, the Very Rev. John G. Tiarks
Everybody in the country today knows something of the benefits of social security, but is security in other directions a good thing? Does not the fibre of character need struggle to toughen it? At any rate, this was the way Jesus Christ went. He heard the call from God, accepted it, and immediately was tested to the core. He took up the burden of humanity's ills and sins, and from the start he knew that God was carrying it with him. All who face the challenge of life and welcome its demand, inherit, as Jesus did, the promise "Cast thy burden upon the Lord and he shall sustain thee". The events of Our Lord's life, at which this service looks, are recorded in St. Matthew's Gospel, Chapter 3, v. 13 to Chapter 4, v. 11.
