Arthur's Knight: 1: Sir Gawain

on BBC Radio 3

Kevin Crossley-Holland's six-part series restores King Arthur to where he has always belonged - the world of the storyteller. The series stars Richard Griffiths as Sir Thomas Malory who recalls moments in his life when he was told the magnificent stories which were later to make up his Morte D'Arthur.

Christmas Eve, 1429. With the snow waist-deep in the Derbyshire peaks, as a 13-year-old squire, Thomas Malory hears the story of Gawain and the Green Knight.
